Proposing marriage is not the key to a successful marriage. Going on your knees, holding the hands of your girl, looking at her face and asking "will you marry me?" does not give an assurance that love will be there all the way in you lifetime relationship you will be having with that person as a marriage partner.
You do not win a battle simple by taking up the challenge, you have prospect for victory only when you prepare for battle. To have a successful marriage, you must prepare for it. How do you prepare? is it by kneeling and saying "will you marry me?" sure, nothing wrong in making your proposal as fantastic as you can, yet that is not a guarantee you will have a good marriage.
Successful marriage is a consequence of the sacrifice made by partners in it to work and do all, come rain, come sunshine, that will make the marriage successful.
Whenever you are planning to propose or if you had proposed and you are in a relationship, make sure just as you planned and made your proposal beautiful, do that also for your marriage.
